Slow decline over six months

Search clicks or visitors have been sliding gradually for six months.

Visitors or search clicks have been falling a little at a time for about six months. No single step was big enough to trigger a drop alert, but together they add up to a real loss.

What it means

A slow slide usually means something is wearing away rather than breaking: content ageing, competitors overtaking you or demand moving elsewhere. It’s easy to miss when you only compare one period with the one before, which is why it’s checked separately.

What triggers it

SaaSMaestro splits the last 24 weeks into six four-week spells and works out the daily average of each. It uses GA4 visitors, or Search Console clicks when GA4 doesn’t have data for the whole six months.

The issue is raised when the average fell in at least four of the five steps, including the latest, and ended 20% or more below the oldest spell, which must have averaged at least 20 a day. It’s Medium severity, and only raised when the website has no “Visitors down” or “Search clicks down” issue already.

Like the other checks on Google data, it’s paused while the website’s Google connection is broken or stale, or while GA4 tracking looks broken.

Common causes

  • Older pages losing rankings to fresher or more thorough competitors.
  • Content going out of date, so fewer people search for it or click it.
  • Gradual technical decay: slower pages, broken links or pages dropping out of Google’s index.
  • A long-term fall in demand for the topic or product.

How to fix it

  1. Compare landing pages and searches with six months ago in GA4 and Search Console to find where the losses built up. A handful of pages usually account for most of it.
  2. Refresh those pages: update facts and dates, answer what searchers expect now, and improve titles and internal links.
  3. Check the website’s health issues for slow pages, broken links or pages missing from Google’s index, and fix those first. See Website health monitoring.

When it clears

SaaSMaestro re-checks every time it analyses the workspace, using data synced from Google every six hours, and the issue clears as soon as the problem is no longer found.

Here that usually means the latest four weeks beat the four before, or the fall over six months shrinks below 20%.

An action that stays clear for 7 days drops off the plan. If you marked it done but the problem is still found 14 days later, it returns as “Fix didn’t work”. See Using the action plan.
