Tip: rewrite titles and descriptions

Pages get far fewer clicks than their position in Google normally earns.

Some searches show the website on page one, but far fewer people click it than usually do at that position. The ranking is already earned; the search result itself isn’t convincing people.

What it suggests

Rewrite the page titles and meta descriptions for these searches so the result matches what people want and stands out, starting with the one named in the tip.

When it’s suggested

It looks at the website’s top 100 searches in Search Console over the selected period.

A search counts when it has at least 200 impressions, an average position of 10 or better, and a click-through rate under half of what’s typical for its position. SaaSMaestro uses about 28% for position 1, 10% for position 3, 4% for position 6 and 1.9% for position 10. It’s an Info tip.

Common causes

  • A title or description that doesn’t match what the search is really asking.
  • Ads, AI answers, maps or other features above the result taking the clicks.

What to do

  1. Search for the query yourself and look at your result next to the others.
  2. Rewrite the title so it leads with what the searcher wants, and the description so it gives a clear reason to click.

When it goes away

It goes away when none of the top searches is clicked at under half the usual rate for its position.

It drops off the action plan once it hasn’t been detected for 7 days. If you mark it done or dismiss it, it only comes back, as “Back again”, if it clears for at least 7 days and then returns.
