SaaSMaestro couldn’t find a GA4 measurement ID or Google Tag Manager in the home page’s HTML. If the tag really is gone, GA4 stops counting visitors and every report built on it goes wrong.
What it means
This website is linked to a GA4 property, but the home page as our server receives it contains no “G-” measurement ID and no Tag Manager snippet. Either the tag was removed, or it’s added later by a script this check can’t see.
What triggers it
Once a day, as part of Uptime monitoring, the home page’s HTML is searched for any GA4 measurement ID and for Google Tag Manager. Only websites linked to GA4 are checked, and only when the home page loads. It’s a Medium issue. A different GA4 ID raises its own issue instead.
Common causes
- A theme, template or website rebuild that dropped the tracking snippet.
- An analytics or SEO plugin that was switched off, removed or reset.
- A cookie consent tool or script that only adds the tag after the page loads, which tracks fine but isn’t visible in the HTML.
How to fix it
- Open GA4’s Realtime report and visit the website. If your visit shows up, tracking works and you can dismiss the action.
- Otherwise, view the home page’s source and look for the GA4 or Tag Manager snippet.
- Put the snippet back with this property’s measurement ID, ideally in the page template so every page gets it. See also GA4 tracking broken.
When it clears
The issue goes at the next daily check that finds a GA4 ID or Tag Manager on the home page.
After 7 days without the problem, the action drops off the board. If you marked it done and the problem is still detected 14 days later, it returns as “Fix didn’t work”.
