Google is showing the website more often, but people aren’t clicking any more than before. The extra visibility is being wasted.
What it suggests
Check what Google shows around your result for your top searches, and make your titles and descriptions stand out against it.
When it’s suggested
It compares the website’s Search Console totals with the comparison period. It’s suggested when impressions rose by 20% or more while clicks rose by no more than 2% (or fell), and the comparison period had at least 1,000 impressions. The details show both changes, for example “Impressions up 35%, clicks -4%”. It’s an Info tip.
Common causes
- Ads, AI answers, map results or other features pushing the result down the page.
- The website now appearing for broader searches, often low on the page, where few people click.
- Titles and descriptions that look like every other result.
What to do
- In Search Console, find which searches gained the most impressions and where the website ranks for them.
- Search for the biggest ones yourself and see what appears above your result.
- Rewrite titles and descriptions to be specific and clearly worth clicking, and use structured data where it fits, such as reviews, prices or FAQs.
When it goes away
It goes away when clicks catch up with impressions, or impressions stop rising. See also Tip: rewrite titles and descriptions.
It drops off the action plan once it hasn’t been detected for 7 days. If you mark it done or dismiss it, it only comes back, as “Back again”, if it clears for at least 7 days and then returns.
