A large share of the website’s search clicks comes from a single search. If that one ranking slips, after a Google update or a new competitor, search traffic falls with it.
What it suggests
Protect the page that ranks for that search, and grow traffic from related searches so the website relies less on one ranking.
When it’s suggested
It takes the top search from Search Console over the selected period, leaving out searches for the website’s own name, and compares its clicks with all of the website’s search clicks over the same days.
It’s suggested when that one search brings 40% or more of the clicks and the website had at least 200 search clicks. The tip names the search and its share. It’s an Info tip. Brand searches are covered by Tip: reach people who don’t know the brand.
What to do
- Keep the page for that search strong: up to date, fast, and linked from your main pages.
- In Search Console, look for related searches the website already gets impressions for, and cover them on that page or on new ones.
- Build other sources of visitors as well, such as email, social or referrals.
When it goes away
It goes away when no single search, other than for the brand, brings 40% of the website’s search clicks.
It drops off the action plan once it hasn’t been detected for 7 days. If you mark it done or dismiss it, it only comes back, as “Back again”, if it clears for at least 7 days and then returns.
